If He Can’t Have Her

Like a fish out of water
he gasps
the air an enemy to his lungs
but more, he needs more
because either way he’s suffocating
and he’ll take it no other way
as the alternative is without her
and there’s just no way its worth it
to survive with her with someone else
someone who isn’t himself
so he gasps again
taking in as much of the toxic air as he can
before staying in the forever memory
of when they were together
a sleep from which he hopes he won’t awake

Reconnect

Stop.

stop where you are and reconnect;
what do you hear?
the breeze, the wind?
the blood rushing within?
and what do you smell?
dew evaporating into the clouds?
a hint of Fall and cinnamon?
see, what do you see?
an open armed sky?
the land that holds your feet?
and my love,
lest it be forgotten,
breathe,
take it in;
what do you feel?

now let it out.

To Stay Alive

I whistle while I work,
a way to force the wind from my lungs
into my throat
through my lips
to stay alive

I whisper when I fret,
a way to force the words from my mind
into my throat
onto my tongue
to stay alive

I whimper while I rest,
a way to force the pain from my heart
into my eyes
down my cheeks
to stay alive

I wander when I walk,
a way to force the will from my soul
into my mind
around my being
to stay alive

Take In The Air

Stop, if only for a moment.
Take in the air;
that’s right,
breathe.
Close your eyes
and listen to the thump
as your heart pumps life through your veins.
Take another breath,
deeper this time;
let your shoulders drop a little.
Forget everything else,
just for now,
and revel in this moment,
this instant.
You’re alive.
You’re here.

Just breathe.
