When It Rains

Beneath the warm water, the stress from her day rinsed from her body, along with each enemy she’d made from her unexpected turn of emotions; realms of bitterness and hatred she harbored unjustly relinquished as a result of her recent abandonment leaving her with two mini replicas of her complicated self.
Elbow deep in the most chaotic form of responsibility, she sought refuge in the company of the porcelain gods.
Lavender scented candles lined the edges of the bathroom sink, steam floated towards the heavens as it escaped the floral jailhouse holding captive the droplets of which it formed.
Her head fell back, the water drowned out the sound of herself and every to-do item adding itself to a list deemed impossible of completion.
The streams flowing down her ears were much to loud for her to hear the creaking of the front door as it twisted open.
Her shoulders sunk into her relaxation, eyes closed in an attempt to absorb the relief and store it for needed moments of serenity in her future.
With the stealth of a thousand samurai, the intruder creeped past the bathroom and made his way towards her two slumbered loves; a sinister smile growing across his mask-covered facade.
She turned two knobs resting just above the bathtub faucet bringing the water supply to an abrupt stop.
A sigh slipped from her lips as she stepped out of her pressure-free world and back into the welcoming grasp of her truth.
Wrapping her damp body in her white cotton robe, she tiptoed towards her bedroom. She stopped in the doorway of the room adjacent hers; a routine to verify the safety of her little ones who, that night, were nowhere to be found.

  1. Wow! Only you could so beautifully change the mood from serene relaxation to heart-stopping grief! Splendid piece of poetry, Crystal! Though I hope you would soon be able to leave aside these fears and have a few moments of peace 😀

    • Worry not, Prateek. While I do express my strife and fears quite often, they only linger long enough to create an image with my words. Afterwards, I’m as cool as a cucumber lol. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping in!!
