Fool Me Once

Caught and hauled in,
hooked and dangling,
defiantly dancing a waltz of suffocation with the wire that deprived you of your freedom.
Fooled by the bait,
the false representation of sustenance,
your entrapment feels ludicrous and rather humiliating.
In the flash of the splash of memories swimming through your brain
falls each snubbed warning of attentiveness and caution.
Feelings of fatigue consuming,
your dance slowing to a dull twitch preceding the last second before your final breath.
A splash occurs,
the air returned to your lungs,
and a holed reminder in your cheek that a second chance was granted.
