Admitting the Contrary

There’s something to be said of guilt
and its collaboration with shame,
staining the flesh of the once innocent;
a permanence no lengthy, scorching shower could cleanse.
Draining,
credence and poise sewer driven;
Attempting to mend the draw back in a once forthright bond,
Struggling to find the pride where virtue once stood,
but slowly collapsing back down, aware that there is no
return to how things once were,
No true defeat against the duo of guilt
and shame in itself
Though redemption sought can be mercifully found
through unreserved honesty
